Can I read it through a finished part?
A non-metal cover can allow contactless reading, but thickness and antenna placement affect coupling. Use a sample inside the final part before fixing the pocket depth.
A visible coil does not identify the chip
Transparent encapsulation is a mechanical choice. The same appearance can house an LF identifier, writable HF memory or another configured chip. Select the electronics by reader command, not by the number of visible copper turns.
